Lecture given by Dr.
Sven Pedersen
Dr.
Sven Pedersen presented a seminar June 10, 2004 titled
"New enzyme opportunities in the industrial use of
starch".
Dr.
Pedersen is presently manager for the application R&D in
starch at Novozymes. He received his Ph.D. from the
Technical University of Denmark (1979) in Chemical
Engineering, and did a Postdoc at the University of Wisconsin.
He has been with Novozymes since 1983.
The
lecture finished with discussion of the possibilities of
developing new products from starch using either branching
enzyme or pyranose-2-oxidase. The major part of the lecture
covered the recent developments in fuel ethanol both in
biomass utilization (the research program at Novozymes and
the perspectives) and in the current commercial process, where
dry milled corn is used as substrate for the fermentation.
