Dr.
Alain Buleon from INRA, Unité de Physicochimie des Macromolecules,
France
presented this year's Belfort Lecture "Structural
Origins of Starch Properties" on May 11, 2005. He
received a Ph.D. in macromolecular chemistry from CNRS in
Grenoble
,
France
in 1977, and has been a Professor since 1987 at the French National
Institute of Agronomic Research, where he was in charge of the
“Structure Group” within the Laboratory of Physicochemistry of
the Macromolecules, INRA from 1986-1992; Director of the Unity of
Physicochemistry of the Macromolecules from 1992-2003; and has been
responsible for the group “Semi Crystalline Assemblies” in the
Unit “Biopolymers, Interactions, Assemblies” since January 2005.
Dr. Buleon is Director of the GDR INRA/CNRS “Assembly of
the biomacromolecule” (French collaborative network including 130
researchers of the 2 main National Research Institutes).
He has 130 publications in peer-reviews and 100
communications. Dr.
Buleon is the 2003 recipient of the Alsberg-French-Schoch Memorial
Lectureship Award. He is
married with two children, and enjoys piano and sailing.
